History is important in Excelsior - it was founded in 1853 by colonists from New York.  Blending old and new, its small downtown and historic ambiance sets Excelsior apart from other suburban communities. Only 20 minutes from downtown Minneapolis, Excelsior is a one-square-mile area with a population of 2,397, nestled on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. “The Minnehaha”, a recently restored steamboat which takes passengers round trip from Excelsior to Wayzata, and a restored streetcar and museum, preserve part of the City's history. Antique shops, a variety of specialty shops, restaurants, a theater, and a bed-and-breakfast inn make this “small town” a fun place to live. There are family-friendly features in Excelsior in The Commons, a park and recreation area with a swimming beach, playground, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, and picnicking and The Southwest Regional Light Rail Transit Trail, enjoyed by many bicyclists and walkers. A strong and vibrant community, Excelsior offers a number of community events, which are sponsored by the South Lake-Excelsior Area Chamber of Commerce.  Thousands of visitors come to Excelsior each year to attend the Art in the Park, 4th of July Festivities, and Apple Day in the fall. Chanhassen

Located just 17 miles southwest of Minneapolis, Chanhassen offers small town charm with a thriving business community and many recreational and cultural opportunities. Within the city limits there are 12 beautiful, clean lakes, 5 community parks, 22 neighborhood parks and 55 miles of trails and sidewalks for walkers, bikers and runners to enjoy. Located just 8 miles west of Minneapolis, Minnetonka has convenient access to the entire metropolitan area with its proximity to Highway I-394 and I-494. A population of 51,480 makes it the 14th largest city in Minnesota. Yet with its priority for preserving natural resources, life in Minnetonka offers 42 community parks, more than 40 miles of trails and more than 1,000 acres of public open space, as well as natural scenery that includes mature trees, wetlands and prairies. Residents living in Minnetonka are served by a wealth of resources, including three public school districts and three private schools, two libraries, many churches, a variety of transportation options and other community agencies. Gray’s Bay, which forms the headwaters of Minnehaha Creek, is the one small bay on Lake Minnetonka that is in the Minnetonka city limits. But there are plenty of other recreational options in Minnetonka, including Libbs Lake Beach, Shady Oak Lake Beach, playground programs, 14 outdoor skating rinks, the Glen Lake Skate Plaza and park programs and leagues for about 45 activities at more than 50 sites. Minnetonka has miles of running, biking and walking trails, part of the 40-mile Loop Trail Corridor System which has been developed by the City. Minnetonka is a family-friendly and nature-friendly community.

Named as the “The Best Small Town in Minnesota”, Chaska is located in the beautiful Minnesota River valley, about 20 miles southwest of the Twin Cities metro area. There are also over 2,000 acres of park land within its municipal borders, including the 1,800 acre Carver Park Reserve. With just over 6,000 residents, one of Victoria’s priorities is to create a sense of connected community. It offers concerts in the park, an annual ice fishing contest, an annual 5K run and several festivals throughout the year. Victoria has a Community Center with workout facilities and a new indoor ice arena and field house which are enjoyed by many hockey teams and community residents.   For golfing enthusiasts, there is the Deer Run Golf Course, open to the public and one of the top courses in the Twin Cities. Located on the western edge of the Twin City Metro area, it offers “small town” life in proximity to large city amenities.

Wayzata

Wayzata is a lakeside village located 11 miles west of Minneapolis. It makes up the northeast shore of Lake Minnetonka, with a thriving downtown business community, high quality developments and beautiful residential neighborhoods.  You'll find the latest in boutique shopping and an assortment of restaurants, most offering lakefront views.
